Unplug every device connected to telephone socket(s). Plug just a microfilter with the short grey dsl cable sky supplied from the filter to the router. Wait for the line to sync (@ symbol to turn green) and make a note of the stats - stats being the detailed stuff you copied and pasted previously, not a speed test result.

Once you've done that, plug into the test socket (link below) and re-take the stats. Post both stats up for a comparison.

Okay then, it's a bit late to be doing that now so i'll try it tomorrow at peak time and will report back.

Okay, it's now outside of peak time and here's my speedtest results:

Seems fine now but will no doubt be back to around 0.1mb/s again tomorrow around 5pm.

Hi you have to have Sky LLU at your exchange to have been on Unlimited.

No, it does not offer Sky on the LLU options. Only Bulldog, TalkTalk and AOL
You can run the Bt speed test to see what speeds you are getting run the test between 5pm and Midnight and again when your connection is not being throttled before 5pm or after Midnight. That is the only tests Sky will take any notice of just follow the link Bt Updated Speed Tester There has been lots of connect Customers who have left while they were in contract because of the connect issues. There are many threads about leaving in contract here`s one that will help.(Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users Do the speed test from the Bt link.

And that would explain why is has just suddenly got bad recently.

Will look into trying to upgrade back to unlimited, can't change ISP because we just recently started a 12 month contract with Sky.
If your exchange is not LLU enabled, I cannot see how you could have been on Unlimited. Is your Dad definitely sure?

With no LLU available, it is impossible for you to have been on Unlimited. Maybe they have started clamping down on your exchange recently, and it is just a coincidence as to the other matters.

It costs money for Sky to have you on Connect, a lot more than it being on Unlimited, so financially for Sky it just don't make any sense.

      Re: What is this rubbish?

So what you're basically saying is it isn't going to get any better and I should just change ISP's if I want a decent service at peak times? And would it probably be best to change to an ISP with a LLU available (so for me that would be TalkTalk or AOL)?

      Re: What is this rubbish?

      On Sky Connect, the only way it can get better is;

      1) Sky rent more capacity from BT (more chance of me mooning in Burton's window)

      2) People stop downloading the internet (ain't going to happen)

The only immediate way of resolving this is to change ISP to an ISP that offers LLU or a BT based one with less aggressive traffic shaping.

TalkTalk do not have a good reputation, from what I have read elsewhere. AOL are owned by TalkTalk so you could assume the same.

You can ring Sky and see what they say, but on Connect I certainly wouldn't hold my breath, the only way you could possibly get out of your contract with Sky is to complain that you are not getting as promised. Sky do mention in the T and C's that they traffic shape, but to the best of my knowledge, only if you abuse the service.

If you are not downloading the internet, and certainly not going over your allocated allowance then you should not be being penalised. I will post more tomorrow when I am sober so as not to be accused of libel etc

      Re: What is this rubbish?

Right, my dad is going to ring Sky tonight to ask them what the hell is going on.

I'm also going to start running these speedtests (the one that was suggested, Speedtester.bt.com) every couple of hours.

      First results:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 3697 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
      Additional Information:
      Your DSL Connection Rate :4768 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps

Ringing Sky won't accomplish much other than make your Dad feel better. As mentioned in this thread there's nothing you can do bar switching ISPs
