How many telephone sockets do you use in the house? - Just the one I think.

Is the router connected to the master socket or an extension socket? - Was on an extension but i've just changed it to the master socket.

Do you use any extension cables to the router? - Yes, but just plugged it into main socket and it hasn't improved much.

Do you have a microfilter connected directly into every telephone socket in use? - Yes.

Do you have sky tv connected to any telephone socket? - Yes.

It has actually just got worse:

Make sure you have only the one socket. If you do then take a preferably new filter, plug it into that socket and connect only your router with the sky supplied telephone cable then repost your stats.

Yes, before about 5pm my connection is fine and usually just over 3mb/s. But between 5pm and 12pm (estimated times) it's terrible.

That's a side effect of Connect, there is nothing really you can do to correct it unless you change to an LLU product from Sky or another ISP who does not do so much traffic shaping on their Broadband package.

Have a try of this and see if it offers Sky on the LLU options.

No, it does not offer Sky on the LLU options. Only Bulldog, TalkTalk and AOL.

      Re: What is this rubbish?

      That's a shame.

The only real way of resolving the throttling that you are seeing is to change to an ISP that does not throttle so much.

Unfortunately I have no up to date recommendations as for the last 4 years I have been on an LLU package with Sky and more recently o2

I was with Plusnet before, and also Be Broadband before o2 at work and they were both acceptable. However I do know that Plusnet do manage their lines using elacoya's which basically profile your line to use it at certain limits / download limits and that they did slow down some protocols during peak times. Gaming should be fine on Plusnet from what people have said in the past.

Basically any ISP that does not offer LLU offer's BT's internet but badged as their own. Just some of them share it more evenly around customers than others, hence why you are seeing the problems you are.

Think of it like a motorway with only a few vehicles on it before 5pm and then after 12pm - Between those hours, there are more cars on the motorway and therefore things naturally slow down, and the chance to drive at 70mph is no longer available.

      Re: What is this rubbish?

If you're not planning on moving to a better provider any time soon, then trying to make it as best as possible is the only option. Your downstream isn't terrible for the attenuation, but I'd be looking for a bit better and a better SNR also. Confirm the following:

Unplug every device connected to telephone socket(s). Plug just a microfilter with the short grey dsl cable sky supplied from the filter to the router. Wait for the line to sync (@ symbol to turn green) and make a note of the stats - stats being the detailed stuff you copied and pasted previously, not a speed test result.

Once you've done that, plug into the test socket (link below) and re-take the stats. Post both stats up for a comparison.

Hi the only good news is Sky have been unbundling exchanges here`s a list of some Sky still unbundling :: Sky Broadband :: think broadband you will find more on
SamKnows - Sky / Easynet LLU The thing is Sky have not said how many exchanges they are unbundling only that they are and a lot are small exchanges. But as
NewsreadeR has said there are ISPs that offer Bt re-badged products and traffic manage without problems.

      Re: What is this rubbish?

Talked to my dad about it properly and it seems as though Sky have changed our package from Unlimited to Connect. We recently downgraded our whole package (TV, phoneline and broadband) and lost quite a few sky channels (Kids channels and News) but it seems as though we've also been changed to connect. And that would explain why is has just suddenly got bad recently.

Will look into trying to upgrade back to unlimited, can't change ISP because we just recently started a 12 month contract with Sky.
