      Getting Sky Broadband on Monday

      Hi

I'm being migrated to Sky Broadband Unlimited on Monday . Currently I'm on BT's 21CN, just wondering if I will get similar speeds on Sky, here are my line stats:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 20050 kbps 888 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.5 db 10.5 db
Noise Margin 4.1 db 16.5 db

The reason the upstream is only 888kbps as interleaving is on for my 21CN line (no idea why) and there seems to be some weird bug on BT's 21CN that caps the upload at 888kbps when interleaving is on (although doesnt seem to happen on every 21CN line ). I'm looking forward to getting a bit more upload with Sky but I'm wondering if the downstream will come in around 17-18Mbps?

I would imagine that you should see around 16mb+ with Sky with a 1mb upload.

I'd expect you to get about 18mb on sky as your noise margin would go up to 7db and would incur a slight loss in sync speed than what you have at present. Upload wise you should be able to get around 1.1mb with sky.

Cool 1.1Mbps upload would be nice . So would 18Mbps down lol. Although I'm not too worried - its just nice to finally get away from BT and 21CN

Re: Getting Sky Broadband on Monday

And I'm connected . Not had much chance to play around with it yet, although pages load quite "snappy" and responsiveness in general is good . Guess I just got to let the DLM do its thing now over the coming days.

@steve16751 Yes, Sky do seem to be still unbundling exchanges, according to a post on thinkbroadband.com there are plenty more exchanges to be unbundled in the next few months! Ah here it is: Sky still unbundling :: Sky Broadband :: think broadband - may be just hot air, but you never know!

Don't 'play around with it' till DLM is finished. Just keep it plugged in and powered up. Don't start rebooting it to try and get more speed, you wont and it will mess up DLM as others have found to their cost

Thumbs up Re: Getting Sky Broadband on Monday

With only a few days left of the DLM period - my stats are already:

      Downstream Upstream
      Rate (Kbps):18015 1157
      SNR Margin (dB): 7.1 8.7
      Attenuation (dB): 24.5 12.0
      Output Power (dBm): 12.3 18.5

I have been using the line quite a bit already - downloading various stuff and doing some online gaming. Very impressed - pings are quite low; 29-30ms for first hop (after the router) - which is quite good from where I am . Getting full speed all of the time too, Well done Sky! .
