      New laptop - cant connect

I have just received my new laptop and am trying to connect to my sky broadband. The laptop can see it as a wireless network, but using the key on the bottom of the router, it keeps on saying it doesnt match. Have tried caps and non-caps.

      Any advice?

      No is still the same.

Could it be anything to do with changing from vista to windows 7?

If you can find the network then you should be able to connect to it. What's the error message displayed? Make sure you enter the key in UPPER CASE.

      Check that-
You are trying to connect to the correct router by checking the SSID. Your neighbours may have a Sky router.

That the proper encryption is be used. Go to the Network and sharing Centre, click Manage wireless connections. Highlight your connection, right click and select Properties then the Security tab. Make sure WPA-Personal is selected in the first box, TKIP in the second, tick Show characters and make sure your key is correct.

Check in the router wireless settings that the Wireless access is ticked and WPA-PSK is ticked.

Re: New laptop - cant connect

      1. Is the laptop a Dell?
      2. If #1 is true is it using a Dell Wireless card, if #1 isnt true what wireless card is it using

If it's using a dell wireless card then sounds like the old dell wireless problem with WPA networks, you'll need to update the drivers for the wireless card and it should all work.
Even if it isnt a dell you should still update your wireless card drivers.

Open the Network and sharing centre and click manage wireless networks. Highlight the Sky entry and click Remove. Click yes. Remove any entries that are shown in the same way.
Go to the Start menu and click Connect To. This will bring up a pane from the Tray on the right. Left click your Sky connection and it will expand to show a Connect button.
Make sure the Connect Automatically box is ticked and press the Connect button. This will bring up a pane for your security key. Make sure the box Hide characters is not ticked and type in your network key and click OK.
Remember if you are using the default key it is all capital letters. You will now be connected.
