      Thumbs down very slow evenings

Every morning I check the connection speed and it is around 7 meg but by the evening we are lucky to have 60-70k. We signed up less than a month ago to Sky talk and broadband and at first it was fine, for about 2 weeks or so it would go down in the evening to around 1.5 meg which we could manage with pretty well. Now it is so bad we can hardly even view a web page or pick up e-mail, online gaming is now unplayable. We are not using excessive amounts of bandwidth, we don't download movies or anything like that, playing an online game is the only thing of any note and previously on BT that would run fine even on 500k or so. Now we are seriously considering changing back to BT as our connection in the evening is frustratingly unuseable.

      Re: very slow evenings

If you are on Unlimited your speed should not decrease in the evenings, unless you are using wireless and are suffering interference. What you are experiencing looks like Connect symptoms. Can you post your stats please and go to the broadband details in your MySky page and check what it says there?

You are not on Unlimited, you are on Connect. This would be why your connection is slow at peak times.

      Re: very slow evenings

I know for a fact that my husband did not ask for Connect, I know he definitely asked for Unlimited and at no time did the salesperson say that bandwidth would be severely throttled at peak times. I guess then I have to assume that the service we have been given is not what we asked for. So is it normal for Connect to be only 60-70k all evening? This is simply not acceptable or even useable, I really did not want to go with BT again as we have had 5 years of terrible service with them.

      Re: very slow evenings

There is no LLU on the Findhorn exchange, so you'll definitely be on connect. Typical that someone in the sales team sold connect without making you guys aware of the traffic management policy. You have two options, really - first would be just to leave for a better managed network with another ISP, or wait out until the end of Summer when sky buy more capacity hopefully eliminating some of the capacity issues.

Are we sure Sky will be buying more capacity, we have heard this before and nothing has come of it over the years

It's what they've briefed their agents with - whether it's true depends on your faith on sky, I guess.

Hi Just looked at your exchange and Findhorn has no ISPs with LLU here`s the link so you can see SamKnows - Telephone Exchange Search Sky have been lately unbundling exchanges across the U.K. here`s a list Sky still unbundling :: Sky Broadband :: think broadband of most of them also you could do as phil123 I emailed Sam Knows, who in turn contacted Sky and my exchange (MYSCA) was upgraded on 29th July. Sam Knows will be updated in due course. So anyone on the Scarborough exchange who's interested can now get Sky LLU. I or you can look at SamKnows - Sky / Easynet LLU click on the list for your area you never know. There have been a few who have gone to the Sky upgrade Packages and put there telephone Number in a the message came back with According to the checker on Sky's site my exchange has now been unbundled. Hope this is some help.
