Extremely slow in the evenings and not just me either.

I have been a Sky BB Unlimited customer for over 2 years now and have been very happy with the service up until now.

However over the last few nights the service I have been receiving has been atrocious. I was getting connections speeds of only 600k, despite my line syncing at 19Mb+

Now, the 1st time I called Sky it was suggested to me that it would be a router problem and a new router would be dispatched. I was convinced by this at all really as a router problem would surely be unlikely to manifest itself just at peak time.

However, when one of my friends in the same town reported the same symptoms I became convinced that it was a problem at the exchange and not with me.

I suspect there are bandwith or contention ratio issues at the exchange or something

Very very frustrating really. I am certainly considering moving to another provider at the moment.

OK here is my router stats. I might add that currently the test on speedtest.net is showing 20.76MB, which is the line pretty much maxed out. The evenings though are a different story.

      Code:
      ROUTER STATISTICS

      System Up Time: 68:32:57
Port	Status	TxPkts	RxPkts	Collisions	Tx B/s	Rx B/s	Up Time

      LAN 611	0	0	0	0	68:32:57
      WLAN 1293644	915034	0	0	0	68:32:32

Are you using wireless as this could explain the problem, try a wire and move the wireless channel, start at 13 and work down.

Hi Smithy I noticed the Tx B/s and Rx B/s all at zero I don`t know the reason why that would happen

Neither do I Steve but as it seems to work well during the day it seems logical to isolate the wireless just in case.

There has been a couple of iffy porblems lately that ssem to point to an exchange problem with thruput issues.

Re: Extremely slow in the evenings and not just me either.

      From Netgear manual
Tx B/s The current transmission (outbound) bandwidth used on the WAN and LAN ports.
Rx B/s The current reception (inbound) bandwidth used on the WAN and LAN ports.

0s indicate nothing being sent or received. Unusual to see nothing being sent or received.

I would also guess its a wireless problem.

Not that wierd, somebody could be turning their router on at night, there are also plenty of wireless enabled devices that are not PC's which may be on a timer.

My central heating system is completely wireless with the thermostat and control panel needing 2 frequencies.

Has the OP tried an ethernet cable yet to see if it is the wireless?
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!
