      This is ridiculous

Something up with Sky lately? For the past 2 weaks or so my Wii console has been having trouble connecting to my router at night and throughout the night. The signal strength on the router just goes weak at a certain time at night, at about 9 and it's like this all night.

Exactly the same with my PS3.

Would it be possible to use a router from a different company? I just don't like the Sky router at all.

      Re: This is ridiculous

Is it posible that your network is open and others may be jumping on your connection around that time to d'load stuff? Worth making sure your wi-fi is secured.
And yes it is possible. Search the forums for your answers.. it's all there.

The signal strength going weak at certain times sounds like it's to do with the above or other environmental factors.. can't see it being the routers fault - too consistant.

Hi you do know that the Connect package is Traffic Managed from 5pm till Midnight. it is over subscribed not enough bandwidth also it is no good for on line gaming have a look at (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users and Sky Connect Broadband - Are you being slowed down? look at page 165 Sky might be buying more bandwidth after the summer also Sky have enabled 68 new exchanges have a look on SamKnows - Sky / Easynet LLU to see if your exchange has been Sky LLU enabled.

Well, my connection is wpa protected but the name and pass to the router settings page is set to default. That's highly unlikely though because the people in my home town are just too dumb

It looks like you are experiencing interference of some kind. Download Inssider from the link below and use it to discover the channels in use in your area, set your router channel to one as far from those in use as possible. Do this when you are experiencing the slow down as it is possible an interfering router is just being switched on at that time.

As you are on Connect, the connection is throttled at this time, so you are going to get a slow down no matter what router you use.

Through the night? Are you sure? The speeds are acceptable through the night the split second after it hits 11:30 and it's like this until they throttle me again at half 5 in the afternoon.

No, I am not sure, I am merely making a suggestion. If you don't want to take the advice that is up to you. Your original post suggested that it was a wireless problem, completely removed from throttling.

It is a well known fact that the Connect is throttled from around 5 to 11.30, so you are going to be throttled at 9 pm the time quoted in your post. Leaving Sky for another ISP is the only way round this.

There are several on the forum using non Sky routers, mainly for a better wireless experience. Instructions on doing this are scattered through the forum, it is of course against Sky's T & Cs, which I must add.

      Re: This is ridiculous

If you have got the original V1 router and havent changed the WPA key from default it is quite possible someone else is using your connection at the time. The v1 had an insecure default key generated from its mac address which anyone in range of your wireless signal can get access to.
