Going to get a cheap telephone today/tomorrow then. Every now and then the noise margin for downstream spikes to 10db by the way. Not sure if this means anything!

Can't seem to get through to the test number, always says it is busy and to try again later.

Normal calls don't seem noisy though.

Bt engineer came today. Said there were errors on line, replaced the plate, said the errors were now much improved. However the noise on line is still around 7 and Sky are unable to increase my speed further.

I guess I'm just going to have to accept it. Kinda wish I'd gone with Virgin now.

The engineer did say sometimes the routers can adversely affect noise. I think Sky are posting me a new one.. is it worth buying an a new non-sky supplied router? From experience of other broadband companies the routers they provide tend to be rubbish.. is that the same with sky?

If you mean the BT test number, it will not matter as this only works with BT connections, it will not work with Sky LLU lines.

It is possibly a router fault, but it would be unusual for a router to throw a fault like this. Didn't the BT engineer have a router to test the line? If he was a broadband fault finder he should have done. It sounds like he was an ordinary phone engineer, which is not really what was required. What you need is a visit from an engineer who specialises in broadband faults.

Now that you mention this I think you're correct. I will ring Sky again and see what they say.

He didn't have a router to test. He simply had some device that he tested the broadband line with just before he left.
