      Problems accessing the router?

      Hi,

We seem to have developed a problem.

All of a sudden the internet will go down.

If I reboot the router it all works again.

      We all run via wireless.

I have noticed however that if we will retain a 'connection' to the router, but are unable to reach the router via the IP. Further more, if I turn off my wireless and plug in a cable, I still cannot reach the router. it detects a connection and the light goes on on the router, but my laptop cannot figure out what sort of connection it is. Reboot the router and the cable connection works straight away as does wireless.

We have the black segam router runnign 1.9sky firmware.

      Any suggestions?

Nothing very evident, although your noise margin is a bit low for the time of day. What you can try is power cycling your router in the evening when the noise margin falls further. Switch off the power for a minute then switch it on again. It should resync at a lower but more stable speed. If you are in the habit of switching your router off at night, this means it will resync at a higher speed in the morning, which you do not want. Leave it switched on and it should maintain the stable speed. Leaving the router on 24/7 will only cost about 5-6 a year.

      Thanks.

      It is left on 24/7

Incidentally, I tried the Sky test, not idea what that does but it just gave me an authentication error (200)

If you try the Sky Test and nothing is wrong it will nearly always show an error. I have Just tried it and got Error 300 (Sky was unable to detect the internet connection) It is a prettty useless peice of kit in my opinion.
