how many filters are you using?
if you are only using 1 bt socket on the wall you only need 1 filter into the socket first, no more filters off that socket.

Re: Have been on Sky 2 weeks and the speed has gone down a lot?

I have a filter on the master socket that the extension wire is plugged into for telephone and the router is also plugged into that - I have no other filters on but the SKY TV man thought that I ought to have one at end of extension lead - would that make a difference if there was one there?

Incidentally I sent email to SKY Help yesterday and have had no response so glad I came on here as well.

There should be no need to double filter the extension, do you have any other phone sockets in the house, if you do, ensure that they also have a filter in them as the FIRST thing connected.

Also, if you can get the stats from the TEST socket - How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

When you do this, remove any wire connected to terminal 3 on the faceplate, you don't need it.

Re: Have been on Sky 2 weeks and the speed has gone down a lot?

Have mentioned that I cannot manage to unscrew the faceplate................ whoever put it in made sure no-one would ever remove the thing but I am sure that I will find someone who is stronger than me at some point!
If the speed is higher from Test Socket how do retain that when you put faceplate back on and connect phone back?
I have another socket upstairs but nothing connected to it.

Re: Have been on Sky 2 weeks and the speed has gone down a lot?

If you only use the one socket in the house then in theory you could just plug in the ADSL filter to the TEST siocket and leave the faceplate off all together, that way you will keep the speed.

Failing that, again if you only use the one socket in the house, you could pull out all the wires connected to the faceplate and just coil them up in the socket and put the faceplate back on, that will give you just about the same stats as using the TEST socket.

If you need all the sockets in the house working then you should consider fitting a filtered faceplate, that will keep your TEST speeds and alo keep the other sockets working for phones etc.

Re: Have been on Sky 2 weeks and the speed has gone down a lot?

Someone mentioned G.DMT -what is that please? - I know about ADSL but not heard of anything else!
So it may be a good idea to get someone to fit me a filtered faceplate?

Re: Have been on Sky 2 weeks and the speed has gone down a lot?

Its possible the 2nd extension socket upstairs is picking up noise and
this is slowing your broadband down.

A prefiltered faceplate will sort this but if you no longer use the other socket you will get the same result from just unscrewing the current faceplate pulling the extension wires out of the
back of the faceplate and then screwing the plate back in place.

before you do any of that though when you can connect router directly to the Test socket via
1 microfilter and router direct in that filter and repost your stats.

Still trying to unscrew faceplate - a friend's son was going to do it for me but has gone off somewhere for a few days! I am assuming that when I get the faceplate off there is a test socket underneath!

If it is like the one shown in this tutorial it will have. The Test socket is the socket the faceplate plugs into.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

If you have one of these remember to check all your other sockets have no dial tone when the faceplate is removed.
