That's about the max at the moment. These stats taken from master/test socket?

If you got 18 Mb with BE then something has gone seriously wrong as there is no way you will get anywhere near that with these stats.. Do you have a set of stats from BE which show the attenuation and noise margin?

Plug into your Test socket and take your stats from there with nothing else connected using only the filter and cable supplied by Sky.

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Re: what should my max sync be?

      sorry,

My openning statement was a bit misleading, I had 18Mb before I moved houses. so it was irrelevant but just wanted to empathise the difference.

My brother who is with o2 has a higher line attenuation of 49.5 but can sync at 5.5Mb. so am wondering if there's an issue with Sky BB.

As adverised try it in the master test socket, you can also dial 17070 then 2, Once while in the test and then with the extension's plugged in.

If there is noise from the test its BT's problem = free if its from the extension its your problem

Post stats from the test socket also.

      Regards
      Darryl

Re: what should my max sync be?

The stats are from the Master socket test socket. I havent got any extensions since i use a cordless phone. I have tried a number of ADSL filters all giving the same sort of results.

I will try dialing that number once i get home.

Ah ok, the next thing i would say is to get a filtered faceplate from here adslnation.com - broadband products

Not cheap but i got a crystal clear line, well worth it.

Re: what should my max sync be?

I think 've got one of the openreach faceplates that has the filtering built in.

I doubt I can improve on the line attenuations but with the current stats what speed should i expect? I am suspecting the 4Mb is on the low side somehow.

Re: what should my max sync be?

I used to have a BT one also it died within a week or two basically 56k speeds for me so i highly rate the adslnation to be honest mate.

With your current stats you should easily see 7-8mb i would give sky a ring mate.

Re: what should my max sync be?

With your attenuation and a decent line you should get 7-8Mb. As you are close to the default noise margin you are not going to get that. Your upload also looks a bit low.

If you have an NTE5 socket, please remove the faceplate and plug directly into the Test socket using only the cable and filter supplied by Sky and post the stats from there.
