      Broadband usage monitor

I used this over a month ago and found that I had never exceeded 2gb download so I downgraded my package to the freebie one and monitored it on a daily basis for a month. At the end of the month it registered 1.06gb which was just about half my allowance. Yet when I checked for the whole month it had registered on the graph around 1.6gb, nearly 50% higher than my final check before it went into the next month. It is rather worrying that for the month that I swapped over to the freebie 2gb max download broadband, it registered the highest it had ever done since November last year for the month. I was far more conscious of not using too much broadband because of the changeover, whereas in previous months I have used Iplayer and ITV player quite a bit so the comparison just can't be correct.
So my question is, can we trust this monitor?

It's very possible your using more, websites are getting larger and larger with more flash, videos ads with sound etc. If you really want to check your usage then download a third party bandwidth monitor and monitor the usage on that - the sky one isnt hugely accurate as far as I know. In terms of reducing your usage you might want to use some form of compression service (such as opera's in-built turbo function) which compresses the data before it gets sent to you and can make a significant difference in the amount of data you use.

      Re: Broadband usage monitor

Yes but I'm comparing with the same usage monitor [sky's version]. Every day since 26th June I have been checking my usage and finally when we got to 26th July it was registering 1.06gb. But when you go into the statistics for monthly graphs [which only appear at the end of the current month] what was 1.06gb for July has now become 1.60gb or thereabouts. It's difficult to line up but it's definitely in the third quadrant rather than just slightly over the second. Surely the same monitor should transfer the usage data correctly to a monthly graph.
