      Re: sagem router info needed.

When you say 'password of the router', do you mean literally to login to the router or to connect wirelessly?

If you want to change the router's default password to login:

      Open a browser
Type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar
Username is 'admin' and password is 'sky' without the quotations
Click 'set password' and change it

If you want to change the wireless key:

      Open a browser
Type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar
Username is 'admin' and password is 'sky' without the quotations
Click set-up in the top left
Scroll about half way down the page, fire away and change the 'network key' to something else
Apply at the bottom of the page

      Re: sagem router info needed.

hi, thanks to link by iwasnottheenemy, i got the router page.
the problem is i think my router details are accessible to hackers ....posibly because my internet router security isn't tight enough or something. i have been computing for a few years now and decided it's time to overhaul this internet router thing. i really am quite useless in this dept.
shouldn't the router be listed in the device manager ?
i am connected via ethernet cable.
      thanks

The router won't show in device manager - only the ethernet nic. Nothing to worry about there. Is there any reason in particular as to why you think your network is being compromised?

If you're connected via ethernet cable, then turn off the wireless on the router. Same steps I posted above to changing the network key, but instead you'll want to untick 'enable wireless access point' and 'allow broadcast of ssid'. Apply those and the network shouldn't show up, if someone did happen to attempt to connect to it.

yeah, turn off the wireless router when not in use. sorted that already. yes i think i got hacked a week or 2 ago, no harm done and all sorted now. they say 64bit O/Systems are quite tough.
i will find a thread in another forum, where i suspect my ip address is on display, and paste it up. maybe i am just being too paranoid but not taaking any chances

IP addresses are on view to administrators on forum boards, it's built into the software on the forum. If you really think you have been hacked then what firewall are you running on the PC as it should show activity there? If you are worried by wireless security just change the network key to something other than the default key that it is preset to.
Also there are a number of scripts that people put in their signatures that proclaim to be able to see your IP address, they cannot see it from their end but the script will show your IP to you because it runs locally on your machine, like this :-

      Re: sagem router info needed.

i wasn't running a firewall other than windows effort. i did try zonealarm recently, but experienced lock ups. a few more free versions are available and i'll see if i can get something configured. i'll be removing the link to the other forum now it's been read; for security.

i managed to disable wireless and i have changed the router password too. still a couple of stages to go go for peace of mind.

If it was the so called 'fun' widget from Danasoft, in my opinion they should be banned from use on forums. As your case shows they cause unnecessary worry for some users and can lead to users messing up their PC for nothing. If I come across one, I Adblock it.

If you want a decent firewall then Comodo is pretty good. It comes as a suite with AV, but you can install either separately or both together.
