      Super news, got a reply from Sky this morning (2am!) saying that they'd reconfigured my connection(?) - here are my stats now:

      Connection Speed
      Downstream: 16158 kbps
      Upstream: 982 kbps

      Line Attenuation
      Downstream: 28.0 db
      Upstream: 15.4 db

      Noise Margin
      Downstream: 7.1 db
      Upstream: 8.5 db

      That actually explains a lot, looks like you were on G.DMT (ADSL1) before which would limit your speed down, they've switched you back to ADSL2+ which has increased your speed and attenuation.
      I dont know why but this seems to be happening and awful lot lately almost like someone there is having a "fiddle" with connections they shouldnt be or an automated system is making bad adjustments.
