Slow connection after upgrade to max

Hi i am basically posting here out of sheer frustration

Here's the situation, we have sky broadband and was on the medium 8mb package. We received a letter saying we had gone over the usage for two months in a row so we would be upgraded to the max package. Fair enough, we'll get unlimited download and speed should double, or so i thought.

Whilst on the 8mb package the speed i was getting was 8mb, now after the "upgrade" i am only getting a connection of 3mb

I have tried ringing sky twice(yesterday and today) both times they are pretty useless. today they actually said the speed i was getting was pretty good.

She didn't even understand what i was saying and i think she thought the problem i was having was between the router and computer Both times they "promised" to ring back but haven't, i also sent an e-mail using the form on their useless site and that was a week ago and they haven't even responded to that!

Here's my router stats and i am plugged into the master socket as well.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3070 kbps 252 kbps
Line Attenuation 33.5 db 20.2 db
Noise Margin 29.3 db 33.0 db

any help appreciated or advice as to where to go from here.

Re: Slow connection after upgrade to max

You're going through DLM so you go back to start speed and it'll go up over the next 10 or so days. Although it is lower than the usual start speed to Unlimited...

Re: Slow connection after upgrade to max

Something has gone wrong with the DLM process, you need to ring up Sky and get them to manually configure the line. You will get a much better speed then.

Re: Slow connection after upgrade to max

Your looking at 13-15mb if you phone sky and get the cap raised
Tell them that DLM has left your speed low and you have plenty of noise in reserve to increase the speed and would they please uncap your connection.

Re: Slow connection after upgrade to max

Not with that attenuation, nearer 10-11Mbps at a push I'd say - you'd have to have an awesome line to get more

Re: Slow connection after upgrade to max

      I've got 36db attenuation and get 14mb
My estimation was based upon the noise margin!

Re: Slow connection after upgrade to max

I guess, a 30dB noice marign is a tad high!!

I'm not saying he can't get it, I prefer to be conversative with estimates as it means if they get more it's a bonus!

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8186 kbps 606 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 20.2 db
Noise Margin 8.7 db 20.5 db

Re: Slow connection after upgrade to max

Maybe another mb on those stats, your line must take lots of noise off per mb as usually each 1db over 7 in the noise equals about 500kbps extra speed.
