Ok folks, before and after pics attached. results self explanitory.

My question now is, Should i approach Sky about swapping out my router? and if so, bearing in mind that I am not allowed to use an alternative router, how should I go about it?

cheers all. Thanks for helping me get to this point. I could not have done it alone!

Just tell them you borrowed a Sky router from one of your friends to test your line. They will accept that.

      oops, 24.50 +p&p for a replacement router !!
The agent said they would "put a note on my account" stating that I should not be charged for it, but could not guarantee that I would not be charged.

There's no need for a 'note' to do this - it's a simple 'yes' or 'no' option whether you're charged or not. Sounds like you were through to someone new, or a simpleton.

Re: Noise Margin suddenly dropped, 25% packet loss

Hi everyone. New router came (D-Link DSL-2640S). After plugging in I called Sky and asked them to do a line test. They did so and adjusted my profile to about 10MB downstream, leaving my upstream as 732k (the line test said that was all that could be supported upstream).

Please see attached before and after stats.

The connection is a bit unstable on the new profile actually, probably due to the reduction in Noise Margin. I have called Sky and asked them to cap my downstream at 8MB to see if that stabilises it.
