      Speed only at 8-10mb

      Hello,

My speed never stays constant, I signed up for the Sky Unlimited and was told I could receive 16mb on my line, but it's never been anywhere close, it's pretty much the same as my previous provider Pipex, but on Pipex I had a ping of 10-15 and on Sky it's 29-32.

I play alot of games, is there anything I can do to improve my download speed and ping? or do I need to give Sky a ring, thankyou.

      Re: Speed only at 8-10mb

You need to give sky a ring to have your maximum delays reduced, with your attenuation you should be getting near the full 20mb you do however appear to have a lot of noise and a low noise margin as a result. Can you please take your router stats from the test master socket (link on the left of the page) and post them here for us to have a look.

Definitely is g.dmt. I'm well confused - until a few recent posts I've never seen anyone at sky, or possibly DLM, set someone higher than 8192 on g.dmt.

I did see DLM set a few to 10Mbps when DLM was first rolled out but it was a bug...

      Re: Speed only at 8-10mb

Looks like someone at Sky is fiddling with the wrong knobs.

To OP. As the previous posters have said it looks like you are on G.DMT, which is basically ADSL1. This gives a maximum download of 12Mbs You should be on ADSL2+, which is capable of 24Mb. You need to call Sky and tell them you believe this to be the case. It will save a lot of fiddling around if you plug into your Test socket, if you have one, or your Master socket if you don't. Tell them you are also using a new filter. They usually ask for this to be done, no matter what you are calling about.

      Re: Speed only at 8-10mb

      Hi,

Thanks for your help, I done the Test Master Socket and used a different lead into the router and couldn't believe the difference in speed, so I changed the micro filter and used a shorter lead and now have what im paying for, thankyou.

      Re: Speed only at 8-10mb

You've been changed to adsl2+ - that was all that fixed it (I assume you actually called Sky?)

      Looking good though
