Question Swithed linerental from BT to SKY speeds have dropped

I've had constant ~13000 kbps connection for over a year now - on BT line rental. A few weeks ago I switched to SKY talk, and now my speeds have dropped to 9184 kbps.

Is this because it's going through different equipment now in the exchange?
Can anything be done about this?

See my post with a very similar title. I've gone from 2mb to currently less than dial up speeds.. This conincided with my change from BT to Sky line rental.

Post your stats, a change of equipment connection at the exchange can re-start DLM.

Re: Swithed linerental from BT to SKY speeds have dropped

Yep unfortunately looks like the SVBN has taken your speed down, this is why we recommend staying with BT line rental. The reason for this seems to be because sky's svbn equipment is further away than BT's in the exchange (ie on an upper floor) or running past some noisy equipment in there.
With your current stats your maxing out the line, only thing you personally can do is post your stats from the test socket and we'll be able to see if your internal wiring is holding things back.

Kaito, with your attenuation I would expect better even on the SVBN network. Can you post your router stats again from the TEST socket How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Re: Swithed linerental from BT to SKY speeds have dropped

The internal wiring probably holding it back some but with the current location of the test socket i'm not really propared to go to the lengths of having the router etc situated there. Maybe something to think about in the future though.

      Thanks for the replies!!

Re: Swithed linerental from BT to SKY speeds have dropped

It would really be worth going to a bit of bother to check in the Test socket. You have the potential to get 16+Mb and as things are, with your low noise margin, your connection is likely to drop and resync at an even lower speed or generate errors, thus reducing your throughput.
