Am I getting the correct speed?

Don't really understand how you work out the speeds you can get. So I would be grateful for any help/advice.

Here are some stats I've kept.

      10th March
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3072 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 49.0 db 29.0 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 19.0 db

      12th April
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2272 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 5.8 db 17.0 db

      15th May
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1984 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 7.4 db 19.0 db

      30th June
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1600 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 10.6 db 17.0 db

      And today a new low,

      3rd July
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1280 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 29.5 db
Noise Margin 8.6 db 19.0 db

      Do these speeds look correct?

      Thanks

      LC

Re: Am I getting the correct speed?

If your physical setup of the router hasn't changed your speed should be consistent. You have dips in speed, attenuation and noise margins which does suggest a fault. Unplug all telephone devises and plug a new adsl filter directly into your test socket (if available) with just your router connected and repost your stats.

Re: Am I getting the correct speed?

Not necessarily true, noise margin will vary during the day, being at its worst (lowest value) during the hours of darkness.
This will result in the modem resyncing to get back to its preferred value of around 7 db, which would be at a slower speed.
OP should state the time the measurements were made to confirm this.

Re: Am I getting the correct speed?

The router should quite happily stay synced providing the noise margin doesnt fluctuate hugely during the evening. The noise margin may drop a few db but it should stay up.

Re: Am I getting the correct speed?

      Thanks for the replies.

Tried unplugging everything and these are the stats,

      Master socket, I think

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1440 kbps 608 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 30.5 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 15.0 db

As for the time I took the stats, mostly mid morning to early afternoon.

It's also started to disconnect more than it ever has before, only stays connected for 20-30 minutes at a time.

I e-mailed Sky asking what was wrong and telling them I may cancel if it does not improve, next thing they ring with the cancellations number... but no support!

Rapidly losing my patience with Sky and might jump over to Virgin, and cancel the lot with Sky.

      Thanks

      LC

Re: Am I getting the correct speed?

Can you try in the test socket? Or if you dont have one try it in the master socket with all extensions disconnected. If you happen to have a junction box where your extensions are wired from then that'll probably be your problem.
Ideally you should have internal wiring done like this:
      BT Line-->Master Socket-->Extensions
and the extensions can either all have a seperate feed to the master socket or be daisy chained off each other.
