      Slow download speeds

      Hi, i am experiancing v.slow download speeds of 128kbps but when i check my router stats it is stating that i am receiving 8128kbps.


      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 34 db 20 db
      Noise Margin 2147483647 db 21 db


      Can anyone pls help?

      Reboot your router and repost your stats as that noise margin isnt reading correctly. Additionally if you can post stats from your master test socket.

      I have rebooted the router and carried out another speed test and the results are still the same (128kbps).

      The new results from the router staats are as follows;

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 34 db 20 db
      Noise Margin 6 db 26 db

      It seems to me the noise margin is now better but the download speed is still rubbish.
      The test is being carried out @ the master socket and no other lines are being used.

      Looks like you're on connect, not unlimited. Run the following:

      Test Result

      Enter your telephone number and click 'go'.
      The username it asks for is your router's MAC address (found in either the router settings page or the sticker on the bottom of the router) with @skydsl on the end e.g. 004F498VD39@skydsl

      Paste all the results.

      Download speedachieved during the test was - 81 Kbps
      For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-135 Kbps.
      Additional Information:
      Assured Rate IP profile on your line is - 135 Kbps

      Does this mean that my line is only capable of 135kbps ?

      Looks like a possible stuck profile. How long do you recall experiencing these slow speeds? Have you had any faulty wiring or line fault issues recently?

      Sometimes RAMBo will fix these issues automatically over 72 hours and others will have to be logged to BTWholesale by sky.

      Hi, i have had this issue for about 12 months, but it only became aparent over the last month as using my pc more frequant now.

      I have had no known issues with faulty wiring or line fault issues.

      What is rambo? and what is a possible stuck profile?

      RAMBo = Rate Adaptive Management Box. Basically, your profile has been reduced to 135kbps for some reason. Your ip profile governs the data rate (i.e. download speed) you can achieve, thus you will be unable to achieve above 135kbps rate until the ip profile is reset to where it should be (probably 7150kbps). A stuck profile would be where the ip profile does not automatically increase as it should to match the sync/conditions on the line.

      If it has been like that for quite a while, then get onto sky and they can log it to BT to have the profile reset.

      Well i have spoke to sky, who have then spoke to BT, and it does look like i have got a stuck profile. BT are trying to repair and will update me in the morning, so fingers crossed all will ok.
