      Allocation of bandwidth

Is the sagem router a bit rubbish? Although am very happy with my speeds, if I download from a newsgroup or torrent, it races away to 2mb a sec, however this then makes browsing fail to work. My old router/provider gave similar performance, but could still browse the web.

I have manually applied caps to download speeds, is this the best solution, if switching to a non Sky router, is there a preferred brand and is it likely the router is the problem and not managing to allocate bandwidth effectively?

Yes, if you had a router with QoS you could set it up with priorities, but what you are doing amounts to the same thing. In the same way you can't have your cake and eat it, you can't get any more than your bandwidth no matter what router you use.
