      No speed increase

      Hi,

As you can see from my stats I should be getting a downstream of 11 mbps, however, I'm still only getting the orginal 2 Mb down speed before the sky upgarde. Its really driving me crazy. I've contacted customer support and they told me that line stabilisation was active on my connection. I ask them to disable it, in reply they said they have disabled the Digital Line Management tool. Checked the speed again but still only getting 2792 Kbps. Then they asked me to run some test on my phone socket and router last week and reply back the answer, but they haven't replied

I've also notice that sky broadband usage tool is not working i.e. not showing any info.

I'm guesting its a problem at the exchange or wiring fault.

Any idea what it could be?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11259 kbps 1118 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 20.0 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 8.4 db

      Thanks.

      Re: No speed increase

Your stats look very good. Are you using wireless? If so do a wired test here Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester and post the result.

Ifyou are not using wireless, what OS are you using?

      Re: No speed increase

That is very poor. Are you sure there is nothing else running which is using your connection? P2P or Torrents?

I doubt if it will help that much but try optimising your settings. Go here and run the Tweak test -
      Tweaking for speed - dslreports.com

When it has run, download DrTCP from the link below and use it to make the recommended changes.

On the chance that it is something in your software that is slowing you down, start your PC in Safe Mode with Networking, go to the speedtest site and repeat the test. Do not stay on line too long without protection as you will be very vulnerablle.

      Re: No speed increase

I get the same stats for both my PC and laptop (wireless) so I doubt its a software fault, but I'll run the test anyway.

      Cheers

      Re: No speed increase

The information you get from the exchange is not really relevant. You are on Sky equipment which is entirely separate from BTs.

As Simon says you will have to call Sky and get past Tier 1 and then get one of the good guys in CST. With the problem you have Tier 1 are going to ask you to do a netstat and if you have more than 10 connections you will be told that this is the problem, which is nonsense, but you will get no more help. You might want to do one just to be sure. Shut down all your browser windows but one, open a Command Prompt and type netstat /b. This will show all the connections you are making to the net. Make sure you recognise them all. Try to impress on the agent that you are not complaining about your sync speed, which is good, but your actual download speed. The tests you have done confirm that the problem is outside your PC, the sync is good, so that leaves the router and the exchange card. It is unlikely to be the router as it is syncing OK, so I would think a tie pair shift in the exchange may be the answer. It is never easy to get this type of fault fixed so be patient and nice to the support guys.

      Re: No speed increase

Just spoke to Tier 1, what a bunch of jokers. I told him the problem I'm having with my downstream and the tests that I've done to resolve the issue. Also said that I ran the tests on my PC and two laptops so there can be no problem from my side. He ran some test on his side and said all is fine our end and you should be getting a downstream of 11mb. He told me to restart my PC and then run NETSTAT to show active connections, when they become way below ten he said you must have a virus on your PC. There's nothing wrong with my PC, no virus, nothing. I said if that's the case why is it I'm getting the same results on the laptops. He said the virus on the PC has affected the laptop . He must think running a LAN in my house. I've heard some crap in my time. I hold him time and time again that PC and router are running fine and that the problem must be at the exchange. But he wasnt having any of it. After pulling my hair out with him I asked if I could speak to someone at the CST department, he said there no point as they will answer your call because the problem lies at your end

I gave up and put the phone down.

Any suggestion on what to do next?
