what is normal on the noise margin ?

Nothing much more I can do as I already have a faceplate that splits it and all the internal 2 extensions are on cat5 and are both needed.

You should have received an activation letter wherein you are told about DLM and advised not to unplug or power down your router after it has completed. The default noise margin is 6.9dbs and as you are over that there is still room for improvement. If your external line is fault free you should get around 9Mb. Keep your router plugged in and powered up from now on and let the Dynamic Line Management do its job.

      Small Update

Connection had been on and the speed still the same .. its would reboot in the night and update my speed but now its not changed over 2 nights.

is this normal when line testing same speed for a bit or do you think its looking like the end and this is my speed ?

the sky site says the testing started on the 27th so its only been on a test a few days..

If this does not move up any more do you think it could be worth calling them for a bit more speed or am I at the max.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8188 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 39.5 db 19.7 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 13.0 db

      Cheers
      Rich

if upping the speed will make my line go on and off ill stick with the stable line but if there is more shame to not have it

Re: New Connection is this normal

There's maybe about 500-1000kbps more on the downstream and about 200kbps at most on the upstream. Not much either way, but a quick call to sky would have it uncapped slightly if you're fussed.

      HI
When the sky site updates and says it has finihsed I could give them a call .. but if i ask for the exta would the line still be ok I could i be getting extra speed at a cost with the line been disconected now and then ?

used to be on cable and what you asked for you got so this is all new to me

do you just call them and say i think you could add a bit more speed ?

      Cheers

Re: New Connection is this normal

It really depends whether you're fussed on getting that last bit of speed out. Provided the router and line handle the new speeds fine, especially during noisy periods, then all should be fine uncapping the line a bit further.
