      'router stats' question.

      Folks,

I've been stuck on c. 5Mb download speed connection for a long time. I'm on the BB Max product. I wondered if it was possible to remove (some of) the cap on the connection and what the speed I would be likely to expect.

On speaking with a very friendly though not very helpful, Sky BB rep. via the call centre today, I was advised that 4Mb was the max. speed my line could support and that I was lucky to get 5mb. I was advised their systems would not allow them to increase the speed further.

When pushed, she 'spoke to her manager' and c. 2 mins. later said she had tried (and failed) to increase the speed; she said the line had immediately started to suffer faults. (I was dialling from my mobile.) There is nothing she could do.

      The speed remains as below:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5019 kbps 797 kbps
Line Attenuation 41 db 21 db
      Noise Margin 13 db 16 d
      b

Just wondered if I should be happy with my lot, or if I could/should expect a better speed? Also, if someone believes I should be getting a better speed, any idea on my approach to Sky given my previous experience/feedback.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Really with those stats there is certaily room for another 2Mb out of the line at a minimum, as your noise margin is above the target of 7 it certainly looks like you are capped. I would just keep ringing until you finally get through to CST or someone who can change the settings there and then without having to 'speak to the manager', I know it can be very frustrating however just let them run all their tests and you should get through to CST.

Once you get through to CST they will see your high noise margin and alter your speed accordingly, just don't let them fob you off!

Thanks for the responses so far. Some stupid questions:

      1) CST - Customer Services Team?

      2) Is there a 'better' number to dial other the one I used: 08442 410 515.
