You should NEVER use a screwdriver instead. If you got away with it good for you but there is a huge risk of permanently damaging the connections on the faceplate by using one.

Yeah but there was no other way of making it connect, it was a last resort. It stayed offline for a good five hours before I did.

Think I might phone them and get them to cancel it. Is that a horribly bad idea? Because I can't stand the connection being this slow and I want to stream stuff, damnit.

Edit : Phoned again. His instructions were "go into explorer and clear your history, then reset the router and see if it gets any faster" like I'm an idiot. By the time I got back (It did nothing, nevermind the fact it's plugged into two different computers) mum had put the phone down. Just a stupid excuse to get rid of me.

Get the faceplate fitted and the router hooked up to it then wait till friday as they asked. Then give them a ring and say you've had problems with the internal wiring that have now been fixed and you want the cap removed and speed increasing. If your unlucky enough to get a stupid T1 who doesnt understand then just say that they need to either 1, transfer you to CST or 2, make a ticket for CST and you'll expect a phone call back saying it has been fixed.

Tech support woman 3 : I'll go ask somebody what I'm supposed to say...

Tech support guy 4 : You have errors on your line somewhere between you and the exchange, I've upped it to 8mb but it's too unstable so I've set it down to 4, there's still errors but an engineer will be out in the morning to see what's up. Good luck.

Re: Connection speed getting slower and slower.

The guy came round today, he fit a new faceplate for free and tested it and it should be error free up to around 7-8mb+ now, just gotta phone Sky and get them to uncap it from 4.

      edit : annd, done!
