New to Sky BB so a couple of questions

My line started with the DLM today after a couple of days syncing at 4096kbps down and 512kbps up, its now at 3847kbps down and 550kbps up. I am on a 55db attenuation and the noise margins are 8.5 down and 12db up so i am fully aware there isnt much room for improvement, maybe only a little bit more on the upstream.

Before the move to ADSL2+ with my previous ISP i was getting a regular 5.4Mbit sync on a 51db attenuation. My internal phone cabling is as good as can be, i use an ADSLnation filtered faceplate and i am using good quality cables for everything else.

Now i have filled you in ill get on with it LOL

I got my cease date today for my current telephone provider so presumably my Sky Talk and Sky line rental will start on this date. When this happens i presume i will be swapped to the SVBN, if this is the case will my connection improve given it is ADSL2+ on a 3.5km line or would i be better off requesting being put back on to DSL Max?

If it's anything like the posts on this forum regarding the move to SVBN your speed may decrease as it seems in many exchanges sky's kit is further away from BT's which increases attenuation and decreases the speed. As your attenuation has already increased it looks like you may have already gone onto SVBN.

With your stats your looking at about 4.5-5.0mb depending on how stable the noise margins stay throughout the day and how your specific router copes with the changes.

Re: New to Sky BB so a couple of questions

In my experience a 3 or 4db increase in line attenuation is par for the course when moving from ADSL to ADSL2+. My current calls provider doesn't stop till the 25th and i am still getting the BT answer service so i am not on the SVBN just yet

I had heard or read somewhere that ADSL2+ works well on the SVBN on long lines which seems to go against what many people get on shorter lines LOL

The noise margin using the Sagem has been very stable, only a 1 to 2db swing between midday and 1am from what i have seen so far.

Well this seem to back it up Seamless Rate Adaptation (SRA) with SVBN? i wonder if anyone else had had a similar experience.

Well the DLM seems to be a bit pants, 3 early morning reboots and my speed has done nothing up or down. I might just ask to be put back on ADSL and have done with it.

Unless you can get 8+Mb you are better off on G.DMT. This uses less of the available frequencies, so is less prone to errors.

Re: New to Sky BB so a couple of questions

Well no reboot again in the night so it looks like the DLM had the bod on, my upstream noise margin was 21db, that got reduced to 12db and 557kbps and its not moved since, shame as this is where i was hoping to see improvements as i upload lots of photos and could have done with a faster upload.

Re: New to Sky BB so a couple of questions

To be honest mate the speeds have stayed near enough the same as in post one (3847kbps down and 550kbps up and the noise margins were 8.5 down and 12db up) However my noise margins have dropped to 6.6db down and 9db up with a 3975 kbps down and 557 kbps up.

As i have said earlier i am not expecting anything at all on the download speed but i am surprised the upstream noise margin has continued to drop with no increase in speed, i don't know how the DLM works if i am honest so maybe it is still working out stable speeds and will increase upload the speed at a later date.

Re: New to Sky BB so a couple of questions

If the upstream is still sitting low after DLM, call up and ask them to change the line code to g.dmt, impulse noise protection set to auto and delays to 32ms (unless you game). And, of course, uncap the downstream and upstream whilst they're at it obviously.
