      Wireless being blocked by something

Hi I am hoping someone can help us.

We have not had wireless internet for 2 weeks now. Our internet lights are on and our wireless device picks up every wireless signal around us but not our own.

Spent 1 hour on phone to support (doing hundreds of tests) for them to say it was a fault our end, then 4 days later it came on for 1 day. Engineer came out and said everything was fine our end.

Next day it went off again, spent another 1 hour on phone (doing the same tests all over again) for them to say we have a faulty router. Received new router, all set up and installed - still no wireless!

Call support again for them to tell me that something is blocking the signal, nothing they can do to help and was hung up on.

Firstly, nothing has changed in our flat and Secondly, we could change the channel the router is on and maybe that will help? Only I don't know how to do this.

6 months its works fine, then it stops and we are left with no help or support.

      Please some one help!

      Regards - Michelle.

Are you sure that the wireless in your PC is working?
      Can you connect wired?
You could try changing the wireless channel on the router, however as this is allocated randomly thats probably OK.

Wireless on the computer is working, we can see all the other signals around us and can connect to our mobile wireless too.

The router is showing that it is working and our wireless is showing that it is working and so Sky are insisting something is blocking the signal so we are on our own.

The channel says that it is Auto, but there must be a way i can set a channel instead?

The chances are someone has recently got a high powered router tuned to the same channel as yours which is blocking your signal. Log into your router and look for the link for Wireless settings. When you get there first change the Mode from Auto to 'g only' or '54g performance' depending on what router you have. Now go through the channels until you find the one giving the best results, although 1,6 and 11 are the main channels, usually No13 is a good bet a few use it.

You can save a lot of messing around by downloading InSSider from the link below. This will show the networks in your area and the channels they are using. Try one as far from those in use as possible.

Remember if you are using a new router the network key will be different.

Definitely change the channel from auto. Connect an ethernet cable between the computer and router and do the following:

      1. Open a browser.
      2. Type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar.
      3. Username is 'admin', password is 'sky' (without the quotation marks of course).
      4. Click top left where it says set-up.
      5. Change the channel from auto to something else (1-13).
      6. Apply at the bottom of the page.

If you're still having signal issues, then change the channel until you find one that functions better.
