      New to sky broadband...

      Hi

I recently got my first house, and decided to get sky fitted. I chose the sky unlimited broadband option, before this i had to have a new line fitted in the house. Anyway as of the 1st of June my broadband was installed. However there were issues on the day after it was installed, for some reason my house phone when picked up would ring a taxi rank anyway straight away with no dialing, we couldnt call out and couldnt recieve calls, however the internet was still working but only at 1mb and i just thought that was due to the errow on the line. Anyway BT sorted the line asap, and now a few days down the line no improvement on my speeds. I know there is a 10day testing period so i am hoping this has something to do with it on my (MYSKY) it says testing began on the 3rd of june but my phoneline was still dodgy then. Sorry for the rambling on. Here are my stats is there anything wrong??

Going on that attenuation that's as good as it's going to get - you're on a loooooong/bad line

Do you know how far the exchange is by road to your property?

A line fault could cause a high attenuation.

      Re: New to sky broadband...

As you are showing the full attenuation you are on ADSL2+ which is sometimes useless on long lines. Call Sky and ask them to try your line on G.DMT. You may have to insist on being passed to the CST to have this done. You might get a bit more speed, but with your line length, your dongle will probably still be faster.

      Re: New to sky broadband...

Your dongle might be faster but the hard line will always be more reliable - i've had horrific experiences with dongles!
Try and get onto G.DMT and with your noise margin you should hopefully get up to around 1.5mbps.
In addition you might want to try and get SKY to give you the netgear router instead. The TI AR7 chipset it uses tends to sync faster than the broadcom chipset used in your Sagem. I know I saw a 500kbps increase in sync when moving over to the dg934g from the old broadcom based dg834gt.
