      Speed estimate?

      Hi all,

After a little hassle, my line has been activated for BB.

      Day one stats are:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 510 kbps
Line Attenuation 18.0 db 7.6 db
Noise Margin 15.4 db 24.0 db

Any thoughts on likely speed after DLM?

      Thanks.

      Re: Speed estimate?

Your in very good hopes there, you are very likely that you will get the FULL 20meg speed, but this is only just predicting.

But this is only the beginning and this can take up to 10 days and in certain circumstances, it could take 20.

If your line doesn't improve in 10 days, then you should call sky to manually set your line for you. Like what I did and since then, I've been really happy being with sky.

Nearer 16-18Mbps...although some at that attenuation get 20Mbps most don't...

      Re: Speed estimate?

With 15.4db noise margin at 4mb theres no way he's going to get near 20mb, there just isnt enough noise in reserve. I estimate around 12mb at most unless the noise margin is improved. I'd check your internal wiring and plug the router into your master sockets "test socket" and then repost stats, with your attenuation you should get a good speed but with the noise you have at present that will limit it.

      Re: Speed estimate?

Thanks everyone. I'll keep fingers crossed and let you know what happens after 10 days. Hopefully it will be nearer 20mpbs than 10.

If it's still slow, then I'll post stats from a connection to test socket.

Router is currently connected straight to master socket (I think it has the ring wire disconnected also). Not sure I have a great chance of reducing noise margin if the speeds are low after 10 days.

My 'MySky' account says line checking has not started yet. Any ideas how long it takes to kick in? Router has been connected for about 12 hours now.

      Re: Speed estimate?

Better getting it in the Test socket now and leave it there till DLM ends
otherwise you will get capped more than you need to be.

While your waiting for DLM to end get yourself a prefiltered faceplate
      for the longterm.

      Re: Speed estimate?

      Hi again,

      Update:

Now connected directly to test socket. Looks like DLM has kicked in. Stats are now as follows:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13305 kbps 921 kbps
Line Attenuation 17.5 db 7.3 db
Noise Margin 14.3 db 10.5 db

Speed tests show about 11.5mbps at the moment.

Think I'll get nearer 16-18 after DLM is complete?

      Thanks all.
