      PC loses connection to router

Hi, I have a Netgear wireless router which works fine if I connect via either of my laptops. My PC has an odd problem though - I turn it on early evening, it stays on, connected, fine all evening while I have a poker client open, then I come to use it in late evening to play poker. The connection drops, but it says I am still connected. I reboot, I restart router, I reboot again - it always says it is connected to the router (sometimes very good connection, sometimes good, sometimes low) but I receive nothing and cannot browse the internet.

      Any ideas please?

      Thanks.

Re: PC loses connection to router

I haven't posted router stats because it works fine with my laptop so it's not the router. I don't understand how the PC connects, says it has very good connection (at times) but won't display any sites. Any ideas please, or is there any more info I can provide to help you help me?

      Thanks.

What Operating System are you using on the PC? Also what wireless adapter is it and have you tried upgrading the drivers?

It is WinXP. Wireless adaptor is a Netgear WG111T 108Mbps Wireless USB2.0. I haven't updated the drivers as the hardware manager tells me it is functioning correctly, and this is true for all day long until about 11pm when it all goes screwy.

So, what your saying is your internet cuts out when your PC is connected but not when your laptop is connected? Or doe's the connection drop out even with the laptop connected all day?

Sounds like possible wireless interference, specifically some device being turned on around 11. Have you tried changing the channel on the router already?

PC's connection drops and won't come back. Laptop can still connect.

I haven't, because the laptop will still connect, so I don't see that it can be a problem with the router?

You'll need to confirm whether the wireless connection is definitely dropping. Ping the router from command prompt next time it drops out to see if you're getting any packet loss between the router and computer or no connection at all.

Re: PC loses connection to router

OK thanks I'll do that next time it happens. The icon in the bottom of the right of the screen tells me it is connected though and if I click that and look at the stats of what is being sent/received it has numbers there, but very low and hardly increasing, so I thought that meant it was connected to the router but just not downloading anything for some reason.
