      Sky v TalkTalk

Hi - I have a query around speed - Im on the Cumbernauld exchange and I am lucky to get 500k download speed - Im on the 20Mb Sky package.
TalkTalk are telling me they can get me 3Mb line speed from the same exchange - is this technically possible ?
We are a fair distance from the exchnage and attenuation is usually around 60dB

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Re: Sky v TalkTalk

So you get a download speed of 500kilobytes/sec? That indicates a speed in ISP terms of 5 megabits/sec, if talktalk say you can get 3mb then your 2mb down on what you already have.
Or are you actually getting 500 kilobits/sec/0.5mb? If that is the case then you should be getting more with an attenuation of 60db. In which case post up your router stats - you could have some bad internal wiring slowing it down.
From my experience talktalk arent that good of an ISP I know several people who have it and they are always complaining about it dropping connections when it goes under load or just generally being unbearably slow. I would certainly not recommend them over SKY at any time.

      Re: Sky v TalkTalk

thats not stats, thats an online speedtest which can be quite inaccurate, particularly on that server.

you need to post your STATS

and you need to connect into your TEST SOCKET and post a second set of stats.

That's not the information needed. Follow the links in the posts above and check your actual line stats from your router, not your speed.

spoke to sky - when router is in master socket i get 2088 downstream- although my line only supports 1Mb - when i plug the socket back together again - i get 1100 - is there any benefit in getting a new wall socket such as those from adslnation ?

      Re: Sky v TalkTalk

Assuming your set-up is fine within the house i.e. every telephone socket in use is filtered, no extensions, splitters fitted correctly and such, then yes you would benefit as you have an internal wiring fault/faulty faceplate.
