Sites I can't access (so far)

I went live this week on Sky BB and I can not access any Microsoft service at all. This includes:

      MSN Messenger
      www.microsoft.com
      www.msn.com
      XBox Live

      plus

      www.cnn.com

I have no firewalls and I've tried using 3 different PCs/laptops and an XBox with the same result. I can not telnet to www.microsoft.com on port 80 (an nslookup proves that DNS is resolving the IP). The support I have received from Sky is an absolute disgrace.

      www.imdb.com

Also, can not connect my Xbox360 to Xbox Live any more. The machine receives an IP and clears the DNS check, but fails at the MTU test. The help/info states MTU should be at least 1364 - the router appears set to 1500.

I suspect it isn't an MTU problem at all but related to the site access problem myself and others are experiencing. The MTU test relies on the XBox360 being able to access the Microsoft Xbox diagnostic server. Does that sound feasible?
I have exactly the same problem. Sky have no answers for me...

gmstrflsh - I'm having similar problems. Early on in this thread (I think) there is a post by Sky Support which sheds some light on the problem.

The short version is... sit tight, eventually our IP addresses will propogate through the various ISP's and we'll become 'unblocked'.

When that'll be I have no idea - if it's not with in the next couple of days I'll probably be cancelling. Between this IP balls up (even if it's not entirely Sky's fault), and the flaky rebadged NetGear modem (one more reboot and I swear... ) I am hugely unimpressed so far.

Appreciate your feedback Jdoki. I am having problems with my router as well (either the ADSL connection drops or the wireless connection drops). This is all hugely frustrating! Do you know if you can use your own router? I read there might be some MAC address authentication going on (as expected the support desk in India refuses to comment).

I have contacted Sky three times and the service has been poor.

1st techie... Read through script, making me check the modem was connected - even though I was telling her that I could browse some sites.

Then informed me that the reason I could not access microsoft.com was because 'I probably had a virus, and microsoft.com is very sensitive to that so was probably blocking me'. What a joke. Told me she would escalated the problem to Tier 2. When I asked when I should expect a call back I got a long pause followed by, 'call back tomorrow'!

2nd techie... I called about the Xbox360 problem. All she would say is 'Yes, it should work, but we don't support the Xbox360'. Fair enough, but the problem I was having was MTU transfers - which is something the ISP should help me check.

3rd techie... Helped me reset modem and Internet Explorer to factory defaults. When that still resulted in being unable to get on to any of the sites I listed above I was told 'Those sites must be down then'. End of call.

      Does not inspire confidence!

Try this thread... although do so at own risk. Not advised.. You have been warned etc etc!

Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

Have not tried it myself, but if the problem sites get unblocked quickly AND my XBox360 starts working then the only thing to sort out would be the modem - in which case I'd be tempted to follow the advice in the linked thread.
