I have been having terrible problems and have decided to cancel - here is my letter to Sky, copied to James Murdoch:
I am a good Sky customer and have been for many years. I spend a considerable sum with you every month, having a premium package and Sky HD.
Having previously held Sky as a good company in terms of service and customer support I had no hesitation to be one of the first to sign up with the Sky Broadband package.
I am afraid to say that my experiences over the last few weeks have completely destroyed your company’s reputation in my eyes.
From the outset I have had problems where basically I cannot connect to half the internet. Here is a small selection of sites I cannot access:
www.myspace.com (owned by your esteemed boss Rupert Murdoch!)
In addition I cannot access web based services, e.g. updating track and listing information in Windows Media player whilst ripping music. Basically moving over to Sky has caused me to have a major problem as I cannot rely on my home connection for access as I cannot guarantee that anything I click on will load!
I am very disappointed with the customer service I have received from technical support:
Initially I had problems convincing your 1st line support I had a problem – I had to keep on going through their default procedure even though I new this would not help (set browser default settings and empty all caches). They assured me that no-one else was experiencing these problems.
Eventually, after explaining I was not able to ping the above sites, I was put to 3rd tier tech support. After the second call to them, one of your staff finally confessed that there is a known problem – it is to do with the ip ranges you allocate to the routers. Apparently, a lot of websites are throwing these ranges out as they used to be illegal. You are working on the problem apparently.
I tried disconnecting and re-connecting the router to refresh the ip address several times as suggested – but encountered the same problem.
I am fed up of continually phoning up over the last few weeks, having to constantly repeat myself and get the same stock responses. No attempt has been made by Sky to contact me and assure me how and when this problem will be fixed.
To rub salt in the wound, the only time I was contacted was by James from customer service. He left me a voice mail explaining that the there is no problem with the Sky service, and the two websites that I highlighted (www.philips.co.uk, www.avforums.com) must have been down! This is clearly nonsense, and I have never had trouble accessing them at work, or with my previous ISP.
I feel completely left out in the cold and am shocked at how ineffectual and blind your support organization are to the severe problems you have with this service. There are many people having the same issues – check on the internet forums (digital spy is a good example). In fact the Guardian ran an article highlighting this.
In conclusion, I have given Sky a chance to prove me wrong – you have not responded and seem unable or unwilling to help.
I would therefore like to cancel my contract and request some compensation for the last month of essentially a non-existent internet service, phone calls, time wasted and hassle.

Its Manik again.
Thanks for your suggestions regarding accessing hotmail. I can confirm that the connection is not lost as i am able to surf the internet.
I am also able to access the hotmail front page. However, when i iput my login dtails (username and password) and press enter, for some reason its seems to attempt to logon but immediately the page refreshes and i'm back on the front hotmail page with all the login details blank.
I have also encountered this problem with another site (www.desitorrents.com) when i type in my login dteails for some reason it always comes back to the front page with the logon details missing.
Again, any suggestions to resolve this will be welcome.
