      As you have no extension sockets, then is this on the incomming line to the master socket? if it is, and you have a dial tone at the test socket, its prob o.k

      yeah thats right. i just wasnt sure as there were some wires not inside of it. but yeah there's a dial tone, so it must surely be ok.

      ok so i got home from work and noticed all the lights on the router were green so i thought id give it a go. after booting up my laptop - internet working fine for about an hour so far...but the minute i turned on the sky box, it went down. took the wire out the sky box and its working perfect again?! any ideas?

      sorted. basically what id done is when re-decorating, swapped the filter and splitter around so that the splitter was plugged directly into the socket and not the filter. everything working fine now, speed shot straight back up as well.
