      Router

Hi, Its my 11th day with sky , not sure if i am still on DLM but have a slight problem with line noise. My stats were excellent on my 3rd day of DLM but the last few days they have been a bit hit and miss. I will add my stats below of my 3rd day and the current stats so you experts can compare them and tell me your thoughts. What i need to know is i am going to plug my router straight into the test socket with a standard filter to see if the noise stops so i can rule out an internal wiring problem but will it be ok to disconnect the router grey lead as that will happen when i pull the faceplate off and then off course it will connect back up when i plug into the test socket via a standard filter...Cheers Colin

stats from the 3rd day on Dlm

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11058 kbps 945 kbps

Yes by all means rule out any internal issues by connecting to the test socket. Do make sure that all other telephone sockets are dead when you use the test socket. If you can, plug a phone into the filter as well and leave the router connected overnight ( I mean plug a phone in so that you can make and receive calls)

      Re: Router

Sorry for replying to my own post but trying to get as much information as possible so some nice technical guy can help me. I am now plugged into the test socket via a new filter with a standard phone plugged into the filter as well. I am still getting line noise but i have discovered what the noise it, it is actually my router i can hear, cause as soon as the 3rd green light goes out on the router the phone line becomes very quiet..in fact perfect. The green light then flashes amber and the router re-syncs and within a minute or so the noise comes back. I had this problem with Plusnet but it just stopped .

      re-synced 2 minutes ago

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6138 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.0 db 18.8 db
Noise Margin 7.6 db 8.7 db

Hi Brian, In the test socket now , all the other phones are dead apart from this one plugged into the test socket, just a bit peeved off as had this problem before when i could hear the router and the line went quiet when the router disconnected. Just to add if i disconnect the router from the test socket filter the line is perfect that's how i know its definitely the router i can hear...HELP !!!!

      Re: Router

This is the root of your problem. You have a poor joint somewhere on your phone line, and as you are using the test socket, it is likely to be between the master and the exchange. As the line is o.k without the router pluged in, you will need to contact Sky about this.

Just to be sure, check that the connections to A and B at the back of the master are secure, its unlikely they are the problem, but you never know. Just to rule out the router, do you have your old one? if you connect it, it will sync and you can see if the problem is still there.

      Re: Router

Cheers Brian, will check A & B at the back of the master in a few minutes, i actually fitted a new master socket a few weeks ago the see if this would help the problem, but to be honest it never. I will check the 2 incoming wires anyway just in case. Regarding trying another router i tried 3 on plusnet 2 netgears and a Thomson and all 3 showed identical problems to this one...Thanks Colin

      Re: Router

The problems i had with plusnet finally ended when a Bt engineer called at my house and claimed he had found a few dodgy connections in the green junction box about 75 yards from my home the day before, he was not 100% sure that one of the connections was mine but it was too much a coincidence for my broadband problems to suddenly end, i simply rebooted my router as the engineer asked me to do and everything was perfect...UNTIL NOW !!!

      Re: Router

I suspect the original fault was never repaired, however you need to contact Sky and get them to arrange an Openreach (BT) visit. Try to be there, and tell the BT tech the history.

      Re: Router

Well finally got round to taking the master socket of the wall to check on connections A & B, when i removed the master socket wire A was actually not inside the push in connection . So i removed the master socket and put my old master socket back on which has the older screw type connections instead of the newer push in type. The line noise (router noise) has now totally stopped ...here below is my latest stats, i am now back in the xte 2005 filtered faceplate...Lets hope this was the problem..but i am not counting my chickens yet but looking promising !!!....THANKS BRIAN !!!

Stats with old master socket back on the wall

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6138 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 15.3 db
Noise Margin 7.5 db 15.9 db
