      Connection speed dropped by 1.0mb

Since I moved to sky broadband I have been able to download files at 450kbps.

Last week, my broadbad connection was lost and I had to reset my router. Since then I am only able to download at 350kbps. This is my speed regardless of what time of day I download.

What is the best way to find out why my speed has decreased?

Is it likely to be because I have downloaded several GB of files in the past few weeks, and sky have 'throttled' my connection?

      Thanks

Re: Connection speed dropped by 1.0mb

I have an idea that when you were plugged into the Test socket you have not had a clean contact and so not got the correct result. Plug back into your original position and take your stats, If you still get a noise margin up in double figures, phone Sky and ask them to adjust your speed as you should get another 1 or 2 Mb.

Re: Connection speed dropped by 1.0mb

      Hello again.

I have contacted sky again and they are adamant that the current speed is the best my line can support.

I know that this is not the case.

Are there any more tests I can do that will shed more light on this?

      Cheers

Re: Connection speed dropped by 1.0mb

Are you still getting the double figure noise margin?
I wonder if you actually are capped considering your sync went up in the other socket, if you were capped it should stay constant and noise margin increase.

As it is nearly 3 weeks since your last post, can you please post your stats again?

Re: Connection speed dropped by 1.0mb

Your connection seems to be getting worse. In your place, I would call Sky and ask them to try your line on G.DMT (ADSL1) It seems to be unstable on ADSL2+ it will probably do better on the slower but more stable mode. You will have to get through to the CST to get this done, not many in Tier 1 will know what you are talking about. Forget about getting caps removed, it will do no good.

You are on Sky? Your Profile still says Other ISP.

Re: Connection speed dropped by 1.0mb

Thanks for all the help so far.

As I was getting no joy through skys tech support, I was able to acquire an email address of a senior manager within sky and have emailed him outlining the issue. When I have followed the same route with sky TV the issue has been resolved much more promptly than simply going through regular channels.
