      Replacement Sagem Router Problem

I received a replacement router today, as my old one was freezing up everytime it needed restarting and it also tripped my electric every few days. I set the new router up and initially I was able to connect to it, however the internet light soon turned orange and I couldn't connect to the router settings page anymore. I connected my old one back up with the new power supply and it works perfectly. No freezing at all and the internet is working fine.

How do I get the new one to work?

      Thanks.

Don't mean to be funny here but... why would you need the new one if you have gotten the old one to work with the new power supply?

Because the new power supply came with the new router. The person I spoke to at sky said the initial problem sounded like a router problem so sent out a new router and power supply. I'm just curious to get the new router working incase the old one goes faulty again.

      Re: Replacement Sagem Router Problem

it was probably just the psu faulty.

if you had: 1.2.3.4 ethernet lights lit on the router and/or the @ light red

      OR

power + test light solid green and as internet light comes on these two go out and it repeats the process

this would indicate it was purely a psu fault anyway. unfortunately alot of technical staff dont know the difference between a power supply issue and a faulty router or just cant be bothered to explain it

      Re: Replacement Sagem Router Problem

I was just worried that the initial problem may have been with the router possibly causing the psu to be faulty. Should I return the new one to sky?

Out of curiosity, would the new router not be working because it has a different SSID or MAC code etc? Since our user details are supposed to be set in the router, are these settings missing? It wont sync to the internet or my laptop because of an IP/DNS error.

      Thanks.

No it should connect. The username and password are specific to the router, not to you. ie. Any Sky router should connect to any Sky enabled line, the actual user is irrelevant. There are two things which would stop the router connecting, 1, the router is faulty and 2, it has not been scanned into the Sky user base. The former is not very common but does does happen. If the routers details are not scanned into the Sky data base its details will not be recognised, so it will not connect. It is up to you really whether you send it back, there is not much point holding on to it if it is not working. Sky should have sent you a freepost label to send back your old one, if they didn't, phone and ask for one to be sent to you.
