      Unhappy Help! Internet really slow

      Hi Guys,

My internet is really slow, I'm on the Sky Unlimited Package and on my line I'm getting under 1mb which I think is absolutely pathetic.

Modem info from the router admin interface:

      DownStream Connection Speed 914 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 493 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

These are the results I get by checking my distance from the exchange:

      I'm Distance:- Direct:
      1.51 mi
      (appx)* By Road:
      2.7 mi

I have a BT Line with Sky Talk and also that is really quiet, I struggle to hear the other person and they struggle to hear me sometimes.

Should I just contact Sky? Or is there nothing I can do about it?

      Thanks

      Joseph

You are getting the mose your current setup will allow.

You could try getting the router stats again but from the TEST socket this time, this will be your best connection point available and show if you can get anymore speed.

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

      Re: Help! Internet really slow

      Hi there,
Having same problem here too in Port Talbot. I'm getting about 1.5mb Downstream and 200k Upstream!

It's been like it for about 2 days now.

Had a look at sky website, they are having problems with hi number of people joining sky broadband and not having the equipment to cope and are upgrading, but Port Talbot is not in the list of exchanges.

Anyone else has answers, please let me know!

The issue you are describing is slightly different to the OP's problem. Where the overall performance of the line has decreased, it is likely that something else is wrong.

Where Sky are having issues where a whole area is suffering, the local connection (hence the request for stats) is still 'normal' but the throughput is reduced on-route to the Sky Server's.

If you are having specific issues, you may wish to start a new thread.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
