      Upload speed has dropped off

Hi I have been with sky about one and a half years now on Max broadband without any problems; but this week I noticed that my upload speed has dropped to 252kbps from what I remember was 600-700kbps.
Nothing has changed in the house so what has caused this and how do I get it back to what it was?

Here are the stats from my router:-

The Noise margin for Upstream is normally about 33db and not that large number shown.

My download speed use to vary between 5-7mb until this problem started and now it seems to have been set to 7003kbps and has'nt changed even though I have rebooted many times.

I have tried 2 routers and both give the same results with the long Noise Margin for upload number.

      Any help would be appreciated

Hi here`s a little info about the upstream

Why has it dropped? Because the background noise on your line has increased greatly since the router synced with the exchange. Rebooting the router should clear the odd reading.
However, then there's the issue of why has the upstream margin changed so badly (and not the downstream which is more usual)? Hard to say but upstream noise margin/sync issues are generally linked to a filtering problem as upstream uses the lowest part of the available bandwidth just above that used for voice.
So, you have a line problem. Could be the odd wiring set up you describe, could be a missing or dodgy filter. Could be other things too so you'll have to eliminate potential causes one by one until you find what it is.
DLM will be running as you've only been connected 10 days but that won't be the cause of the issue you're having. It will be trying to adjust your connection to your line condition though so if you want to end up with a good speed you need to sort the problem out.

Your download speed is a bit low for your attenuation which suggests you have noise problems on your line. Plug into the Test socket using nothing but the filter and cables supplied by Sky. Post your stats from there.

Re: Upload speed has dropped off

Hi Guys soz for not responding been very busy last two days and not had chance to reply.

Here are the stats taken from the test socket in the Master bt socket:-

      First from a Netgear router

And from the sky Sagem router

These results to me look very similar to the previous test I took except the sagem does'nt throw a fit with the noise margin for upstream.

To me it looks like sky have locked the speeds....

Not sure what to do now....

      Many thanks

Re: Upload speed has dropped off

Do you have extensions hard wired to your master socket? That is socket outlets in other rooms which are not connected by a plug into the master socket. If you do, when you remove the faceplate from the Master socket are all these extensions dead, without a dial tone.

You would normally get a difference in attenuation with different routers, but not 4.5dbs, that seems excessive. That is the difference between getting 8-9Mb and 11-12Mb. Not sure why this should be.

Yes all the extensions go dead when you pull the front of the master socket off.
There are no more wires connected to the master socket other than BT ones coming into the house.
The sagem router has always given worse figures than the Netgear, which is why I use the netgear router, it also has better wifi range.

Am I right in thinking that sky might of locked the speeds or is something else going on?

Re: Upload speed has dropped off

Your line is probably capped, but with your figures you would not get any more speed. If you don't have any extensions then the problem must be on your external line or you have 2 duff routers.

Re: Upload speed has dropped off

Upstream SNR is reporting high on the sagem so its likely the upstream is capped allthough the downstream is about the best your going to get.

Not going by the first router though, it doubles the downstream SNR...

      Defo something not right...
