      Downloading problem

Ok so this problem just started for some reason, I use IDM (internet download manager with Rapidshare and Megaupload and so does everyone else in my family. When i start downloading everyone gets disconnected. They can never get connected again unless I stop my downloads and it's the same the other way round. Unfortunately we are all on a wireless connection and it's not possible to go wired, basically we'd all like to download so can anyone give me some advice on what to do. It's as if when i download it takes all the connection, we have been lucky a few times where everyone's managed to stay connected while i or someone else downloads but browsing the net is **** each page takes about 2 minutes to load compared to the usualy 2 secs.

It is a case of you can't have your cake and eat it. If one connection is sucking up all the bandwidth there is nothing left for others, You will have to restrict the speed you download at in some way. Have you checked your stats recently? If you are just noticing this, it could be your speed has dropped without you realising it.

Your speed is a bit low really. With your attenuation you could possibly have almost double that. Check your stats from the Test socket.

      Re: Downloading problem

It would still be useful to see your stats from the Test socket, which is behind the Master socket.

When the faceplate is removed from the Master socket do all your extensions loose their dial tone?

If so you have a very poor external line. Plug a corded phone into the Test socket, dial 1 digit and listen. Your line should be very quiet with only a very faint hiss. Anything more, report it to your phoneprovider as a noisy voice line, don't mention broadband or you will get nowhere.

      Re: Downloading problem

      Can anybody advise?

Recently I have moved top Sky Talk from BT and since then (2 -3 months ago) I have problems with loading web pages. Not all the time but most – anytime night or day, weekends and through the week.

I hasten to add up until then Sky worked all the time any time and I had no problems what so ever.

The message at the bottom of the screen states “waiting for reply from www” and the timer circle is in the address bar.

I have tried plugging straight into the test socket and it is the same.

I have spoken to Sky who checked everything and said everything is how it should be.

They think the router could be to fault (White V1) and will sell me a new one for 28.00.

I have one computer and have not changed any settings. The router data is as follows:

      System Up Time 61:30:21
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 6 3 0 16 2 00:00:19
      LAN 10M/100M 83689 80680 0 356 64 61:30:18
      WLAN 11M/54M 6857 0 0 6 0 61:30:10

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 960 kbps 576 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 7.0 db

Can anyone advice on a course of action.

You're on a long line which won't be helping matters but probably best you start your own thread with some background on your setup your end...
