I'm not an expert on virii, but as a reformat only writes a zero to the addressable part of each sector of the disk then the possibility for virii to remain is possible unless the sector containing it is overwritten ?

I suppose it's possible for there to be a virus that formatting doesnt remove. I havent heard of it before but I know it's theoretically possible. If it gets to the stage where your ISP disconnects you because of a virus then I would always run a quick DBAN and nuke the hard drive to remove all data. Additionally memory sticks or any other storage device that you plug in will probably have been automatically infected too. So you get it off your PC pop the memory stick back in and then woops it's infected you again.
