Can't connect to wireless router via syslink dongle

      Dear all

I have been trying to connect a wireless pc to my router, but it just does not connect.!!

So far I have tried to connect with :-

      Updated adapter drivers for win7
      the router security turned off
      MacAfee turned off…..

I have win7 ultimate with a USB dongle (Linksys WUSB) connecting to a Netgear DG934G Router

Any help please, as I am now banging my head against the wall and don’t wont to mess my paint work up 

*Note that my broadband is up and running if I hard wire it, plus I have had the account for some moths.

Here is the win error report..

Re: Can't connect to wireless router via syslink dongle

If it wont connect even without security then you know the problem is hardware or driver related.

Have you used your wireless adaptor to connect to other networks before? , also make sure you have the latest device drivers for your wireless adaptor installed.

Also it shouldn't be the case as its disabled by default but make sure on the routers wireless settings page you don't have access control ticked, this can be found on the wireless station access list.

Re: Can't connect to wireless router via syslink dongle

I've had a real headache getting my wife's laptop hooked up with win7 on wireless as well with the up to date drivers etc.

I tried the neighbours router and that connected yet mine didn't and in the end I went and got the same router as my neighbours as at least that worked.

Seems to me there is a range of routers/wireless cards that don't seem to want to work together under win7 and I hope that it can be sorted out soon.
I'm a PC, and Windows 7 Backup saved my sanity when BitDefender imploded !!!

I think this points to the problem. Your dongle hardware isn't working correctly and associating with the Sky Router WiFi. The suggested remedy of re-installing the dongle by deleting the driver seems a good place to start but also look at how strong the WiFi signal is - try placing the router and PC close together to check the signal strength. Also don't use any Linksys WiFi management software, only use the Windows 7 wireless management as clashes between this sort of software has caused problems since XP. Another thing to check is which version of the 802.11 spec you have chosen because the one chosen on the dongle may not be the same as the one on the router - chose b/g on both. Finally are you sure you've chosen WPA security for the dongle?

Re: Can't connect to wireless router via syslink dongle

I haven't used Windows 7 but one quirk with XP and Vista is that when trying to troubleshoot any wifi connection it's not as simple as changing different settings. Changes often don't seem to kick in as quickly as we expect them to.

It's best to delete the problematic wifi connection and then reboot the PC before installing from scratch. It shouldn't be like that, but it is
