Joining Sky Broadband & Talk Freetime

Hi all, as a costcutting exercise we have bundled our tv,phone and b/band. Sky came round last week and installed new hd box on sky plus subscription.

BT openreach coming round in a couple of weeks to install a bt line (still with virgin at moment)

I wanted to know about ADSL. Been on cable broadband since 2000 and I was wondering what happens next, I have informed sky that I want to keep my number.

Might sound stupid but is ADSL reliable? The closest ive had to it was dial up, been on cable ever since. Cable has been trouble free in the ten years ive had it, but needed to change to reduce costs.

How long before my line and b band will be up and running after installation?

We are not heavy internet users so ive opted for the free 2mb base broadband and freetime.

I will be paying the line rental direct to sky.

I live half a mile from a BT exchange which im told has the sky stuff in there.

      Thanks for help in advance

Just make sure your exchange has Sky LLU equipment in there, if it does not then I would STRONGLY advise NOT taking Sky Connect, it is useless.

Any of the Sky LLU packages will be fine.

Yes done the research and it has got all the LLU equipment in.

Just another question about adsl broadband... do I have to have router plugged into the master downstairs socket? Or will it work being plugged into an extension socket which is upstairs? (where I would strongly prefer it to be).

Just done exchange check on my local exchange - MRRAD on samknows,

      =Sky / Easynet: Enabled as of 20/11/2006 =

I take it this means that skys equipment is in there and I will get a good connection?

it's LLU yes, whether you get a good connection is down to your line, distance from exchange, etc...

Re: Joining Sky Broadband & Talk Freetime

You would certainly be better connecting the router to the master socket, with a filtered faceplate if you can.

Connecting to an extension can sometimes cause a huge reduction in speed and stability.

When you get connected a set of router stats from both positions will indicate if you will have problems using it.

Do it from the estension and also the TEST socket.

but your line could go all over the place before getting to yours - never assume the best but expect the worst. then if it's good it's a nice surprise!!
