SKY BB Unlm - Help to improve upload speed

      Hi

My latest stats synced at are as follows:
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 121982 242717 0 9320 624712 21:36:11
      LAN 95 0 0 0 0 23:43:50
      WLAN 246386 124314 0 638676 12790 23:43:23
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12222 kbps 732 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.5 db 18.6 db
Noise Margin 6.6 db 14.5 db

I had a guy say a few mths back (CST) that i had max on my line for up/down speeds but been reading about setting SNR? etc and people pushing Sky to lower to 6-7db etc. Will this help me with upload.

Am i able to get more out of either up or down speeds on these numbers - i use the faceplate that allows you to plug in router and phone direct minus cheap filter + its in main mastersocket + no other devices in any other sockets etc.

Let me know if i can change any settings here or push sky to max out last few drips of speed. Are my stats as they should be as not clear on most of them other than speed and line att etc. thanks

call 08442 410 515 and select support. go through the slow connection stuff with tier 1 as you need to get to CST. they can then increase your upload there and then.

Re: SKY BB Unlm - Help to improve upload speed

Is it ok/correct to have a noise level of 15db for UPLOAD when its only 6.5db for download.

What does this mean - does it mean i can request them to adjust the upload to lower it and get more speed on upload - would that impact download speed?

Also, which sky router is best or can you recommend a good replacement router that may help ping/down/up speeds etc and offer more features

      thanks

Downstream and upstream are somewhat two different things. The fact your downstream SNR is 6.5db simply means it has been uncapped. The upstream is capped at what you have now. So, once uncapped, it will reach for the target SNR of 7db, meaning the upstream will then increase as the SNR lowers.

You just need to ask sky to uncap your upstream speed. It won't affect the downstream.

Debatable subject to some, perhaps, but either sky router is fine. A different router may negotiate more speed, but probably very little more, if any, from the sky router. If you want better speeds, then you need a shorter distance to your exchange. Regarding pings - ask sky to put your max delays to 8ms if you want better ping times for gaming. You may find you're already on 8ms, though.

Re: SKY BB Unlm - Help to improve upload speed

Just had this reply from sky - can someone put it in laymans terms as i asked them to improve max delays setting, reduce SNR and mainly to improve upload rate to around 1mb as prior to email download was synced at 12.3mb, upload was 760kb. This email seems to say only change of benefit is max delays from 32 to 8 as their stats "TRAINED in DOWNLOAD?" as 10mb down are not right + new stats are same as my previous sync speed? SEE MY FULL CONNECTION STATS AT TOP OF THIS THREAD

Not sure what "TRAINED in DOWNLOAD/UPLOAD" means when they list stats for my connection as i refered to my synced speeds... But bottom line is i was looking to get closer to 1mb upload with minimal loss to down speed - is this poss on this connection (Stats) - here is email response from them SKY today:

I appreciate you sending us in the answers to your physical set up.
Having checked your account and with the information you have given me I was able to make some adjustments on your line today and you are now having a stable connection at 12259 Kbps.
The speed we can offer to your line is totally dependant on the quality of the line and the distance from the exchange or physical set up.
Mr X can I please ask you to monitor this over the next 72 hours, however I am confident the changes I have made has improved your speed issue.
Before the changes were made your line was configured to the following:
      Trained in download 10097
      Trained in upload 767
      SNR downstream 7.3
      SNR upstream 15.9
      Max delay 32
After the changes were made your line is now configured to the following:
      Trained in download 12259
      Trained in upload 765
      SNR downstream 7
      SNR upstream 9
      Max delay 8

that shows they've done as asked. delays are at 8s (lowest) and your line SNR is near default - they don't 'lower you SNR' they uncap the line so it gets the best it can at the point of training in...training speed is the same as the connection you see in your router - extremely simple really
