How to get your router statistics

Follow the instructions in the above link, and that'll show how to obtain your router stats that we need.

      Re: Very slow download speed

Your stats at the moment aren't bad - certainly nothing to warrant the speed test results you've posted. I assume you connect wirelessly? At your attenuation, however, you should be pushing out 16+mbps.

How many telephone sockets are you using in the house?

What's plugged into each telephone socket, and more to the point is there a filter directly into each telephone socket as the first device plugged in?

Are you running any extension cables to the router and/or are you running the router of an extension socket?

      Re: Very slow download speed

only one phone socket, phone socket then thing for sky TV then filter with phone line plugged in and router cable.

no extension leads to the router or coming of it.

Weve had it set up like this for about 3 years and have never moved the equipment so its allways the stayed the same

      Re: Very slow download speed

Ok, can you confirm whether the set-up is like the following into the socket:-

Master socket > Sky tv splitter > Microfilter > Phone/Router

If so, then this is incorrect. Fix the set-up like the following and reboot the router. Re-take the stats after that and there should hopefully be a big improvement in SNRs.

      Master socket > Microfilter > Phone/Router

I.e. Remove that sky tv splitter box (it's a blank two-way adapter) and make sure the filter is the first thing into the telephone socket (that two-way box that says 'modem' and 'phone').

try and connect your filter in before the sky tv and repost stats?

you are getting a good speed at the moment but your line can handle more with the correct setup. your connection speed isnt related to the poor speedtest results, how many pc's are switched on in the house? have your connected your pc directly to the router via ethernet cable and done the speedtest again? i assume you have closed down everything you can on the pc(especially any downloading clients)?

      Re: Very slow download speed

Did what was suggested and we lost internet conection for a while .

then we realised we had a socket plugged in that did nothing, so we took it out and hey presto we were back on, this is the speed now below

      thanks for the advice

      Re: Very slow download speed

Re-post up the full stats, as it should look a good bit better if the set-up is correct now.

As you can see from the speed test results, they are nonsense to put it bluntly. You're apparently getting a better throughput than your sync speed to your exchange, which just isn't going to happen. Try a speed test on the following link and see what results you receive:

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/speedtester/

As Misfit pointed out, the speed you're getting via the stats you pasted should not be deemed 'slow', so the real issue may be down to something local, like wireless interference for example. However, the splitter you had may have been causing a lot of errors on the line and thus leading to packet loss and altogether slow speeds. If you re-post the stats as I suggested, we'll have a look at them and advise from there.

Edit: Just to reiterate; make sure the socket is like the following now:

      master socket > microfilter > router/phone

No splitters, no extension wires and the microfilter directly into the socket first.

      Re: Very slow download speed

just done the test from the link you gave and here is what it said

      Your most recent test results
      Test taken
      (up to) DownloadSpeed(Kbps) 8184 Kbps
      Upload Speed (Kbps) 712 Kbps
      04 April, 2010 17:50:47

      stats from router

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13311 kbps 923 kbps
Line Attenuation 20.0 db 12.2 db
Noise Margin 14.3 db 8.5 db

another question is when i go to speed test its not my ip that comes it comes up with is that right??

      the connection is master socket>microfilter>router/phone
