      Keeps disconnecting

Hi, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I have a recent problem with my internet connection and can't figure out what is wrong. I've been on Sky Broadband since June 09 and have never had this problem until now.

My internet keeps disconnecting for a few minutes and then reconnects. I have noticed that when this happens the green light next to the '@' symbol on my router goes off for a few seconds, and then starts flashing orange. It is only like this for half a minute and then rapidly flashes orange & red until it goes back to green again.

It has been doing this over and over again since about 8:00pm last night.

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong and how to fix it?

      ~Mark

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

Have you tried plugging into the TEST cocket behind the master face plate?
It may be that your internal wiring has started to fault.

HAve you tried a different filter to rule out a broken filter?

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

I've tried the test cocket and a different filter just like you said but I am still getting disconnected. I also changed the wire that goes into the ADSL part of the router and that didn't help either.

Below I have uploaded a picture of my statistics in case it helps:

The upstreaming part of the noise margin seems a bit weird, as I have just checked again and it is now reading: 0.0db

When you lift up the phone do you hear any noise on the line?

Post a set from the test socket too. If that set above is already from the test socket you have problems. Remove everything from the line apart from the router and filter, plug into the test socket and post the stats you get.

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

Mine is doing the same thing this morning (Formby.) All of a sudden my connection will fail with the router connection light coming on solid red. Router stats will alternate between showing my usual connection stats and then few minutes later PPP Server down. Been happening for a few hours now

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

I have done another test on the master socket, and the noise margin looks normal this time. It might have been an error the last time as I took the picture not long after the router reconnected to the internet.

I presume you mean when I'm on the dialing tone. I just checked and I can here what sounds like a tiny bit of interference but it is very quiet (my dad couldn't hear it) and isn't constant.

The above set is from the master socket. Below is a picture of the stats from my test socket.

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

There is no difference really, so it looks like it is the condition of your external line that is dropping your speed slightly. You would have to run something like Routerstats Lite to see if your noise margin is varying enough to cause your connection to drop. Get it from Internet Software

If your noise margin remains steady, then you may have a faulty router.

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

I used that RouterStats Lite program and got these results on the noise margin:

The bit where it goes to 0 was when my internet disconnected. Are the rest of the stats normal or should it not be moving around like that so much?

      Re: Keeps disconnecting

Keep it running for a couple of days, if the fall/rise in the margin occurs at the same time each day then it is probably REIN which is causing it. Street lights or something similar.
