      Sky Broadband Help

      Hi all.

Just started having problems with my Sky Internet (again).

Every few months, Sky will move my line back onto some sort of Automatic Management and then it will try and bunk my speed up past 3mb (my line can't handle anything over).

Recently, my internet will have very short "mindfarts" where it will disconnect for the slightest second (enough to disconnect MSN and disconnect any game i happen to be playing) which is a symptom of SKY interference. Anyone have any suggestions before i spend 3 hours on the phone to find out why my internet is doing this?

      Thanks

Do you connect wirelessly or via ethernet?

When the internet does disconnect, do you notice the internet light (denoted by the @ symbol) on the router go off?

no its too quick. im connected via ethernet and the disconnection will just be enough to knock you off a game or sign you out of MSN. you can log back onto these things immediately after. its like it hits a bump or something which knocks it off but immediately gets back on track.

From what you're suggesting, it doesn't sound like your router is losing sync from the exchange, then. Does it drop out for literally seconds, or around about a minute or so?

Log into the router again, and instead of clicking 'show statistics', click 'connection status' - paste the 'connection time' which should show the amount of time the router has had internet connection for. Match this with the last time you dropped out i.e. if it's held a connection for all of today, but you've been suffering drop-outs during today, then it won't be the router losing sync.

Is it just msn or games that are affected, or can you not browse either?

      Re: Sky Broadband Help

The time 01:55:11 does not match the last time i got disconnected. I only got disconnected 30 seconds ago. I cannot browse when it happens either.. Firefox will hang as though it is just connecting back up. And when it does drop, it is for 1 or 2 seconds. It's definately not isolated to my PC either as the missus' laptop is also doing this hanging state.

      Re: Sky Broadband Help

A bit strange if it's affecting both computers, in honesty. How long's it been going on for now? Your stats look ok from first glance, but there are perhaps noise spurts, causing errors and making the connection hang, but that's a stab in the dark at the moment.

If you have a look at your show statistics page and set the refresh interval to one second, does it ever refresh lower than 6-7db if you monitor it for a minute or two? You could try keeping the statistics page open when you get the connection drop again and paste the stats you get then (if you can do that quick enough obviously).

      Re: Sky Broadband Help

Just watched it and 99% of the time, Noise Margin on Downstream is 10dbs with the 1% hitting 8dbs, nothing else changes.
