      Broadband Max Instability

I had no real problems last year, connecting at 14Meg, but a couple of months ago, a dodgy kettle blew out my power and once I turned the fuses back on, the router died. I got a replacement Sagem and after a few days, I managed to get 15Meg and was quite happy with that.

I managed to disconnect the router a week ago and the speed dropped to just over 13Meg, which was annoying. But on Friday, it suddenly dropped to 4Meg, but after I called them up, they got me up to 13Meg again.

I got an email from them last night, stating that there are a large number of errors on my line, which would be contributing to my erratic speeds.

      Here are some stats:

Only router connected, straight into the test socket:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11916 kbps 1168 kbps
Line Attenuation 33.5 db 16.9 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 7.6 db

Straight into normal socket, only router connected:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11916 kbps 1168 kbps
Line Attenuation 33.5 db 16.9 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 7.6 db

Current set up, straight into normal socket, everything connected:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12064 kbps 1179 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 16.9 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 6.8 db

I also have an extension in the bedroom, which I don't use, although it still has a microfilter on it. Could that be causing the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise it's off to Virgin.

      Cheers,

Do you have line rental with Sky???

If so you may have been moved to SVBN. There does not seem to be an issue with your internal line and it is currently showing you are getting as much as you can.

      Thanks for the reply.

I do have line rental with Sky as well, but how would that affect my line speed?

      Ah, cheers for that mate.

I've emailed them back, so I'm hoping they'll be able to sort it out, otherwise I'm off to 50meg at Virgin.
