What speed can I expect from these stats?

      Hi there,

I've only just joined Sky, and my Broadband was activated yesterday.
I'm on Sky unlimited and Sky predicted my speed would be between 10-20mbit.

I know that Sky starts you off at 4mbit, which is what I'm getting right now, but I would like to have a good estimate of what I should be getting by the end of the 10 day period, so I can follow up on it.

      Here are my stats

      Code:
      System Up Time: 22:13:37
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 259419 426911 0 89 137 19:16:05
      LAN 1036426 597775 0 3225 4770 22:13:37
      WLAN 295426 171622 0 0 0 22:13:09
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 13.5 db 5.7 db
Noise Margin 15.1 db 17.2 db
Any help would be much appreciated.
It's important to me that I'm able to get the most out of this connection.

      Thanks guys

Re: What speed can I expect from these stats?

      Wow okey great, thank you.
Excuse my ignorance, but in terms of the 10 day process, is it possible that I can give them a call and ask them to boost it to around 16mbit to start with, rather than start at 4? My understanding of the process is that it adjusts over time in both directions, so if I'm ok with the potential for instability of my connection, this shouldn't be a problem?

Also, whats your guess on the upstream?

Can you plug into the Test socket and post your stats from there.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Your present noise margin seems to be a bit low considering your speed/attenuation.

Unfortunately I'm not able to use the Test socket due to living arrangements.
Would it not be a good idea to give sky a call and ask them to start me off at 16mbit then? or?

The DLM training is there for a purpose and some of the agents will not touch your connection until it has been running for the 10 days. You can try phoning, but it depends who you get, some stick by the rules others ignore them. Don't be surprised if you get a lot less than 16Mb.

What would you call a lot less?
I would hope that I'd get at least 10mbit

Also, what are the downsides to me starting the DLM training at a higher speed? It will still drop if there is noise on the line won't it?

Re: What speed can I expect from these stats?

In most cases when DLM starts it will kick your speed right up immediately. It does not go up by a Mb a day or anything like that. You will probably find that it jumps to 7-8Mb for a few days then rises again if your line is suitable.

Sky will not officially start you off on the highest speed possible, as they did this in the past and were bombarded with complaints when the speed fell to a stable rate. Give them a call, you have nothing to loose by asking.

I'll give it a shot now!
      Wish me luck

      Edit:

They refused damn. Though amusingly, the first woman I spoke to (got transfered) told me that I should have "Unlimited download speed"

      now that would be good!

your noise margin is definately low for your attenuation, if there is a wiring problem DLM might not react to well and getting your line manually reconfigured over the phone might be hard if they spot any wiring problems
