      Optimum Noise & Attenuation?

      Hello,

      Can anyone tell me what the optimum noise & attenuation stats would be in a perfect world?

      Also, what would case there to be bad noise and attenuation stats?

      Attenuation is better the lower it is, anything below 20 should see around the 20+mb mark.

      Noise margin is better the higher it is, and if you can get a good balance between the two then you are doing well. As your speed increased, your noise margin will fall.

      Attenuation is mainly due to line length from the exchange to your router, nothing can really decrease this other than moving the router closer to the exchange.

      Noise margin is a reading to show how much interference is on the line, the better the line, the higher the noise margin, long lines suffer more with interference as they have more wire to pick it up.

      Best attenuation I've seen on a downstream was at my gf's parents house - 1dB (15ft line)

      Worst I've seen when working for Sky - 86dB
